The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Poor Response
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a clearer game identity.
The president stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement echoes a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete message from Ismailer's communication:
Team—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”
With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to consideration and overhauled the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of conversations, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the recent years creating and managing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in welcoming Ben soon. We are all excited to persist witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
The President
Background of the Incoming Leader
Brinkman currently holds the role of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Information and Concept
Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a community playtest. Then, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch states. "Take on the rivals with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that change every match. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The decision is yours."
Project Ethos has not yet received an official release date or platforms, but players can anticipate more updates as creation continues.
